Today is as good a day as any to stress just how much I hate the Mail and its pride in its own ignorance. Here are a sample of the pieces running in it today, mostly from the foghorning cretins who pass themselves off as the Mail's columnists:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1173775/MELANIE-PHILLIPS-Labour-blasting-Britain-dark-ages.html (check out the totally pointless poll!)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1173918/RYAN-SHORTHOUSE-Cyclists-universally-loathed--remind-socialists-Tories.html (check out the general absurdity!)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1173515/PETER-HITCHENS-They-rave-peril-sunbeds--let-fry-brains-cannabis.html (check out the less talented Hitchens!)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1174171/EDWINA-CURRIE-Equality-fine-absurd-disaster-women-Britain.html (check out the total failure to grasp feminist principles!)

There's another one that I couldn't bring myself to post, about children being taught "about gays" from the age of 11. Also, of course, there was that recent news that the Mail had opposing views on the cervical cancer jab on different sides of the Irish Sea, supporting it where public opinion was for it and decrying it where people didn't want their kids immunised. Gah!

Their horoscopes are excellent though.

I must confess I have on many occasions considered donating to organisations such as Mail Watch. I don't know what can realistically be done to combat such a widespread problem though, it's an issue with news reporting in general these days.

I can't read those. Weak spleen.

Is it legal for journalists to send documents containing notes for articles to external organisations? ...Because that's exactly what Wynne-Jones did. Sent my notes straight to the Christian Institute. Wow.

I guess that if you didn't specifically said they were confidential he could; but what a dick! This reflects even worse on the CI, if they actually had your quote allaying parents' fears about atheist child-converters!

My Grandad reads it every day, to be fair it does make great kindling for a fire. :)

I try to read it for balance. The Guardian is closest to my own views but it can be really annoying at times - a good shot of Mail every day reassures me that even a paper that's a bit sanctimonious is far, far, FAR better than a right-wing rag!

Well, we'll be mentioned in a Camp Quest article tomorrow or Thurs. Plus possible feature coming up. Both in the Indy by Jerome - the nice man who came to our launch :)

When I can be bothered I might paste up what I wrote in the doc and the reply I got from the CI regarding corrections - it's punch-yourself-in-the-head stupid. It is sooo hard for me to resist writing a sarky response. Or just send him an reply saying shit for brains bellend.

Maybe if you dress it up in nice language it'll work.

"Dear Sir,

With regards to your most recent correspondence, I have to declare that you have shit for brains, bellend. I look forward to your reply in due course.

Warmest regards,

Chloe C-F"

Edit: oh, and hooray for the Indy!

Show me then give me his email address, I'll gladly tell him he's got shit for brains. Provided I agree of course.

While we're on the topic of the Mail, I posted this link (http://dailymailoncology.tumblr.com/) on my blog a while ago, I think it's brilliant.

All it does is put an entry on the blog every time the Mail claims that something cures or causes cancer. But there's one almost every day, 2 some days!

Yeah, the mail and cancer is ridiculous. See also this: http://www.thedailydust.co.uk/2009/02/19/20-strange-things-the-daily-mail-say-will-cause-cancer/

Or even worse, this: http://layscience.net/node/507 which is particularly terrible because it shows plainly that they don't care about the wellbeing of anyone, they're just trying to be populist and sell papers, even if it does cost lives.
