I'm pretty much entirely exhausted, but so insanely pleased.

The end of American theocracy! A victory speech that mentioned God only in the obligatory "God bless America" at the end! A born president and a vice president who isn't afraid to get his teeth stuck into his opponents*! Liberals (ish) in charge of every apparatus of government and hence the promise of alternative energy, stem cell research and the preservation of abortion rights!

Obviously not a totally amazing night - Proposition 8 looks like it'll pass and at least three anti-gay marriage proposals also passed - but fucking hell what a monumental victory (and relief) and what an historic moment. I admit I got a little teary-eyed when I saw Jesse Jackson openly weeping in Chicago.

Obama: Fuck YEAH!

*seriously, I fucking love Biden; watch some clips of him on the campaign trail or in the primary debates and see him tear McCain/Palin a new, collective hole.

I only made it to 4am before I decided to grab some sleep as I couldn't get today off work. Was a fun a night though.

I don't have a TV and our Union managed to totally mess everything up (they thought they could just close the bars after 3am and carry on with the TV's - Scottish licensing laws mean they can't without a special license application which they don't have. Idiots. So I just got the result on the BBC website this morning.

It wasn't a terribly exciting race - Obama was always going to win it - but the speeches were absolutely dynamite and it was actually surprisingly moving. I've been thinking about Obama for so long as "the best candidate running" that I was completely blindsided when I remembered that, fucking hell, he's also going to be the first black President.

Still can't quite believe it
